Why Is Health Important

The Dalai Lama was once asked what he is most surprised about in the world, and below is his response.

“Man, because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then he dies having never really lived.”

Now, I’m not trying to get into some sort of philosophical debate or even tell you how to live your life.

But one point I would like to highlight is that your health goes with you everywhere, and that is the answer to the questions, why is health important and why is physical health important.

It’s with you when you wake up. It’s with you when you go to work, and it’s with you when you come home. Your health is always with you.

I’m a fan of money. But I know that no matter how much money I make in my life, it is my health that will allow me to enjoy the things money purchases.

I’m a fan of being lazy, but I know that the only way to enjoy being lazy is to be healthy.I know that when I’m sore from a workout is when being lazy feels best.

I’m even a fan of eating unhealthy foods, but at the end of the day, I know it’s only because I am healthy that I can thoroughly enjoy eating unhealthy foods.

There are many things we want to do in life and that we can do in life, but it is our health that permits us to do so. It is our health that allows us to have the energy to participate in the wide variety of activities, events, and hobbies.

You don’t have to be ripped. You don’t have to be able to see your six pack. You don’t even have to put up big numbers on the bench press, squat, or dead lift.

But you should aspire to be healthy, because as I said above, it goes with you everywhere!

Often times, when a certain industry or field is filled with regulation and rules, it crashes.

Most people can cooperate with a set of rules, especially if the reward is greater than the effort put into cooperation. But, as the rules pile up and up, our motivation to participate goes down and down.

I think this has happened to the field of health and fitness. I think there are so many different dogmas within health and fitness that command you to do “x” type of  exercise and eat “x” type of way, and this really screws the average person over.

I’ve been reading about health and fitness for a few years now, and this by no means makes me an expert. But, if there is one thing that I have learned and that has presented itself over and over again, it is that there is no one right method for everyone.

We don’t exactly know what works for everyone. We know that certain things work for the majority of people. And although you may think this is a little ironic, this is the exact reason you should look into ways to improve your health.

It’s the illusion of all these rules that keeps you from caring about your health. The actuality is that there are many people who exercise and eat the way they think works best for their body, and they are successful.

This is my appeal for you to care about your health. Do it in the way that works best for you, but at-least look into it. If you can only go to the gym once a week, do it. It’s better than not going at all.

If you can only eat a couple vegetable and protein filled meals a week, do it. Your body utilizes all the nutrients it can to the best of its ability.

The fact is that there are many supposed rules when it comes to health and fitness. There are plenty of people telling you to eat only this way and work out only this way, and it does get overwhelming.

It gets overwhelming even for a person like me, who loves the field of health and fitness.

But at those times, when I feel most overwhelmed, executing a workout the way I want it to be done and eating a healthy meal the way I think it should be made often gives me a sense of relief.

It lets me know that even though I didn’t listen to expert A or B, I listened to my own body and contributed to my health in a way I think was beneficial and in a way that I enjoyed.

This is my appeal to you to give health a try, because I honestly believe it will improve every other area of your life.

Why is health important?

Because you are important.
