Many inexpensive hair care products, including shampoo and conditioners, use a chemical known as phthalates.

Chemical straighteners turn your curls into frizz-free smooth locks. Though salon hair treatments to straighten your hair are labeled at formaldehyde-free, there are still high concentrations of keratin in the product.

According to WebMD, the Oregon’s OSHA tested random salon straighteners to find more than half of the samples still contained high concentrations of formaldehyde. Long, continuous exposure to this chemical has been known to cause cancer.

Instead of visiting your salon to straighten you hair, try a simple, easy method right in your own home. Use a conditioner to neutralize the affects of static electricity.

A flat iron will remove the kinks created by naturally curly hair. To keep the smooth look, this process must be repeated each time you wash your hair.

Hair Dyes

According to WebMD, one study have reveals that women who dye their hair regularly are more prone to getting leukemia or lymphoma. Other studies report that there is no increased risk.

For peace of mind, opt for plant-based hair dyes, including those made with henna and vegetable dyes.

Hair Removal

Shaving has more dangers than just the fear of nicking your skin or getting razor burn down your legs. To obtain a smooth shave, you need to use a variety of different shave creams, lotions and gels.
