The Five Most Stylishly Named US Hair Salons

 Hair Salons

Hair salons are known for their sometimes witty, sometimes strange names. We’ve picked a few salons that combine great marketing (that’s what a name is after all) with great cuts and a solid reputation.

They’re scattered all over the country, from the East Coast to the Midwest so we hope that you can find a hair salon near you.

Seagull – New York

Downtown New York is famous for its clothing boutiques, record shops and locally-loved salons.

Seagull hair salon probably has the most music industry cred in downtown New York. It’s co-owned by former member of Le Tigre, Joanna Fateman.

Small and niche it might be but it certainly isn’t cheap, with cut prices starting from $90 and $200 if you go with a lead stylist.

Immortal Beloved – Washington DC

As the name suggests, Immortal Beloved in Washington DC deals in a kind of emotive, rock aesthetic. Their stylists come highly recommended and their colourists are no slouches either, judging by the positive reviews online.

The salon itself is highly unusual, with handmade furnishings supplied by the owners and the strange feature of a tree growing out of a claw foot bathtub.

The staff are well-regarded for their friendly attitude and attentive, professional approach. Perhaps the best recommendation of all: stylist Johnny Wright cuts First Lady Michelle Obama’s hair.

Ted Gibson – Washington DC

This list wouldn’t be complete without at least one ‘big name’ salon built on a list of high-flying clientele. Owner and lead stylist Ted Gibson appears on US primetime television, overseeing hair makeover on TLC’s ‘What Not to Wear’.

Celebrities whose hair he has styled include Angelina Jolie, Gabrielle Union, Zoe Saldana,

Anne Hathaway and Emma Watson. Gibson channels his industry experience into his own salon, making for some very happy customers.

The salon also has its own line of products for colour treated hair and its own branded professional flat iron.

ChaCha Hair – Wisconsin

This sweetly-named salon is famed for its excellent service and reasonable prices.

The theme of the salon is vintage and rockabilly but its clientele are varied and you’re just as likely to get a great trim and work haircut as you are to get a great rock’n’roll shag do.

The hair salon is also attached to an art gallery – which gives you a good idea of what to expect from your appointment. If you prefer low-key, local secret salons to the big chains, you’ll love ChaCha Hair.

According to a survey in 2009, the most common hair salon name was found to be ‘Shear Perfection’, closely followed by ‘A Cut Above’.

These charmingly dated-sounding names are closely tailed by ‘Mane Attraction’ and ‘Mane Event’.

Coming in at number six is the adorable and shamelessly punning ‘Hairport’.

What’s your favourite salon name? Do some salons take the name game too far, and is a great salon name likely to convince you to book an appointment?
