In our busy lives it’s not very often we get the chance to sit down for breakfast, lunch or dinner, carefully slice of food, prepare and cook it in a way we know will be delicious, and consume it all in about five minutes.

Here is where the smoothie comes in. The beauty of the smoothie is that you can have a healthy diet and a (less) stress free morning!

You can add in whole fruits, ice and water or milk or yoghurt, hit blend for 30 seconds and voila. A nutrient packed filling start to your day or, and if you put the right amount in they’re definitely big enough for a meal.

So what kind of fruit and veg should you build the perfect smoothie out of? Firstly choose a fruit which is highest in the nutrient you’re after. If you want vitamins and fibre, go for apple and bananas.

They’re full of fibre, vitamins A, B, C and D and best of all they’re pretty cheap to come by! So now you’ve got your canvas you can get creative. From experience I’d recommend raspberries, blueberries, some kiwi and some natural yogurt to smooth things over.

All of the berries are full of antioxidants and you’ll quickly be able to see and feel the benefit of having them in your diet.

Seasoned smoothie-masters also like to add extra shots or boosts of ingredients known to be packed with a little oomph. Health food stored will sell these as part of your low calorie diet or health kick.

You can get weight loss boosters which fire up your metabolic rate for example.

You can also add things like lemon and wheatgrass for fibre, vitamins and anti-oxidants. Kale and spinach also work really well in smoothies. Kale and nori are so full of vitamins and nutrients; you can’t compare anything to them.

A lot of people find the taste a little off putting and the colour they’ll turn your smoothie, but as long as you balance it out with a good amount of fruit then you shouldn’t be able to taste it.

Spinach is full of iron and fibre as well as protein if you’re looking to bulk your smoothie out a bit and it will leave you feeling satisfied for much longer.

Smoothies are an amazing start to your day and can seriously boost and healthy diet plan and great source of goodness to tie you over until your next meal.

You can create whatever you like and style them however you want, they can be as sweet or as healthy as you want them to be!
